THE ORIGINS OF EMBROIDERY

When someone seeks to know more about the culture of a nation, they have to delve folklore as it bears a lot of secrets. One of them is embroidery.

 

It is one of the first forms of art in history as it dates back to earlier than 3000 B.C. Embroidery and handiwork were initially made solely by talented men, who actually had to apprentice to a craftsman for more than ten years before they were considered professionals.

 

In the beginning of the 20th century, embroidery ended up as a widespread activity in the rest social classes. As a result, it became common and a product of the Greek culture, namely as a concept, a design and a technique that is acknowledged even nowadays.
